ENENSYS Technologies enables 5G Broadcast Field Tests for the ORS Group

Rennes – September  1, 2020 – ENENSYS Technologies, leading provider of media delivery solutions, is excited to announce that its OTT@Scale solution has been selected for the execution of 5G Broadcast Field Tests for the ORS Group. At the forefront of advances in video distribution, the ORS Group contacted ENENSYS with the desire to test and evaluate 5G Broadcast technology in accordance with the 3GPP Release 14. The goal is to compare the existing broadcast technologies such as DVB-T2 and DAB+ with 5G Broadcast and to measure pure 5G Broadcast performance.

The Field Tests are designed to study the live-streaming delivery of up to three TV channels in HLS and transparent mode (MPEG-TS) across the city of Vienna. ENENSYS’ solution provides all functions to enable the delivery of the content on top of LTE BTS by using M1 (user plane) and M2 (control plane) interfaces. The provisioning of services will be made using ENENSYS MediaCast Controller. Dynamic allocation of radio resources in the LTE band will be performed with ENENSYS’ Multi-cell/multicast Coordinating Entity (MCE) using the M2 Control Plane Interface.

For the project, The ORS Group chose ENENSYS’ OTT@Scale solution, using MediaCast Controller and MediaCast Mobile (eMBMS BM-SC and MCE) along with the CubeAgent (eMBMS Middleware)  because of its flexibility and advanced features. In addition, OTT@Scale offers transparent content delivery for legacy TV set support and HLS/DASH ABR streaming delivery for tablets and Smartphones. OTT@Scale also has unique features able to interoperate with Telecom Operator networks.  This unique, end-to-end solution is capable of multicasting DASH, HLS content over mobile, broadcast, cable, satellite, and fixed broadband networks.
