TDF deploys ENENSYS’ OneBeam DVB-SIS technology for UHD DTT broadcasting

Rennes – March 4, 2024 – ENENSYS Technologies, leading provider of media delivery solutions, is pleased to announce that ENENSYS’ OneBeam DVB-SIS technology has been selected as part of the rollout of the French DTT’s first UHD multiplex.

A few months before the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, DTT broadcasting begins its modernization across France, with the launch of the France 2 channel in UHD/4K to offer French viewers an unequalled TV and sound experience. DTT, which is free for viewers, free to access (all you need is an antenna!) and ultra-reliable, embraces the latest technologies in terms of image quality and sound immersion. It also helps to reduce the environmental impact of television, with consumption 10 to 14 times lower than that of Internet broadcasting.

The overall system efficiency is enhanced by the use of an innovative transport architecture based on DVB-SIS (Single Illumination System) technology, implemented in ENENSYS’ OneBeam solution, which enables the same satellite stream to be used for individual DTH (direct-to-home) satellite reception and for feeding DTT transmitters.

This new architecture enables TDF to offer UHD broadcasting to its customers with excellent quality of service, and paves the way for the broadcast of new DTT channels in UHD.

Gaëlle KAMINSKY, Deputy Director of Audiovisual and Networks at TDF, says: “TDF, which operates the UHD headend, is very pleased with the successful deployment of the DVB-SIS technology via ENENSYS’ innovative solution. This enables us to contribute to the evolution of the DTT platform, by mutualizing services for viewers on both terrestrial and satellite channels.

Régis LE ROUX, CEO and founder of ENENSYS Technologies, says: “TDF and ENENSYS are long-standing partners, and we’re delighted to be contributing to the modernization of DTT in France. Our OneBeam solution has been deployed internationally for 10 years, and we are proud to install it in France as part of the launch of UHD on DTT. Thanks to this solution, second-generation DTT networks can be deployed faster and at lower cost, for a marked improvement in the viewer experience.
