ENENSYS ATSC3.0 broadcast gateway, ATSCheduler, awarded the 2018 TV Technology Product Innovation Award

Rennes (France), February 4, 2019 – ENENSYS announces today that it has been awarded the 2018 TV Technology Product Innovation Award for the ATSCheduler. The ATSCheduler is the ‘Broadcast Gateway’ for the ATSC 3.0 network, providing IP stream adaption, PLP (Physical Layer Pipe) allocation, SFN timing, in-band control and signaling to all the modulators in the ATSC3.0 network. It completes the ENENSYS comprehensive ATSC3.0 solution from the ROUTE / MMTP server & signaling server to the exciter, including 24/7 monitoring probes and analysis tools offering a one-stop-shop solution for broadcasters.

Now in its sixth year, Future’s Product Innovation Award recognizes excellence in manufacturing of products to serve the TV/pro video and radio/online audio industries. Winners are selected by a panel of professional users and evaluation criteria include innovation of concept and design, creative use of technology, price value, and suitability for use in a broadcast TV/pro video or broadcast/online radio environment.

Located at the broadcast playout center or studio side, ATSCheduler encapsulates multiple IP Streams coming from live HEVC encoders, EPG, interactive applications and signaling servers using ROUTE or MMTP protocols; the services selection is made according to IP multicast destination, source and port numbers. Ensuring the ALP (ATSC Layer Protocol) encapsulation, and the BBFrame real time allocation, it outputs the resulting ATSC 3.0 STLTP (Studio to Transmitter Link Transport Protocol) stream protocol over IP.

Reliable and field proven, the ATSCheduler is used in all existing commercial and trial ATSC 3.0 live broadcast networks, in South Korea and the United States. ATSCheduler supports single frequency network deployment (SFN), providing the spectrum efficiency required for terrestrial transition.

ATSCheduler manages automatically the ATSC 3.0 signaling from the different LLS (Low Layer Signaling), including automatic management, generation and delivery of the SLT (Service List Table) to ensure the exact description of the on-air services. Finally, ENENSYS has developed a patented technology ensuring a seamless 1+1 redundancy of two ATSC 3.0 broadcast gateways – ATSCheduler – providing the capability to switch from the main to backup unit without any perturbation at the transmitter site – no desynchronization – even in SFN mode.

“We received this award as a trademark of ENENSYS willingness to keep innovation in the company’s DNA”, says Richard Lhermitte, VP Solutions and Market at ENENSYS.  “We strive on pioneering the delivery of multimedia content over any network to help our customers operate as efficiently as possible. The ATScheduler is a field proven, market leading solution for broadcasters in South Korea and the US. We are really excited to demonstrate at the next NAB show the new generation of our ATSC3.0 broadcast gateway that will provide even more innovative features and will complete our end-to-end ATSC3.0 offering.”
