Developing LTE-Based Public Safety Communications Solutions Just Got Easier, Faster and More Affordable

Expway and Nemergent Unveil First Compact Platform To Build, Validate and Demonstrate MCPTT Solutions

Berlin, Germany, Critical Communications World, May 15th, 2018 – Expway, the LTE Broadcast specialist and leader, and Nemergent, the MCPTT pioneers, unveiled today their new joint product, eBox MCPTT. It is the first compact, feature rich and portable platform for quickly building, validating and demonstrating all-in-one MCPTT (Mission-Critical Push-To-Talk) solutions. Expway and Nemergent have combined their best-of-breed products, already used by the NIST’s (National Institute of Standards and Technologies) MCOP (Mission Critical Open Platform) project to create eBox MCPTT. EBox MCPTT helps reduce the cost of building MCPTT solutions, validate their compliance with 3GPP (Rel’14 and beyond) standards, and speed-up their time-to-market.

Efficient and reliable critical communications systems are essential to emergency responses. Yet current radio communication systems are expensive, prone to traffic congestion, mostly proprietary, and lack interoperability. 3GPP-compliant and LTE-based MCPTT solutions using modern smartphones are design to alleviate these issues.

“Regulatory bodies, public safety agencies, and programs like FirstNet, are now mandating the use of MCPTT solutions for their mission critical communications”, said Claude Seyrat, Expway Co-Founder and CMO. “With MCPTT solutions, first responders can finally avoid congestions and coordinate their efforts with other agencies through secure, dedicated and reliable networks, benefit from the innovative LTE ecosystem, and save lives!”

“Building MCPTT solutions and enabling rugged devices for MCPTT involves integrating multiple technologies, testing several components together and conducting complex lab validations”, said Oscar Fajardo, Nemergent CEO. “EBox MCPTT helps reduce the process complexity and speed-up the process, making it affordable to a large group of vendors to enter this market”.

eBox MCPTT is used by device makers, safety agencies, application developers and research institutions worldwide to develop, evaluate or demonstrate MCPTT solutions over LTE. It is a fully functional LTE network fitted with eMBMS (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services) capabilities, pre-integrated with the MCPTT application server and management servers from Nemergent, an eMBMS server and administration console from Expway, and a fully functioning LTE network. The components are 3GPP compliant and carrier-grade – having already been deployed and proven by tier-one mobile network operators and device makers in large commercial uses.
