ENENSYS LAUNCHES ENHANCED DTT AND CABLE LOCAL CONTENT INSERTION TECH AT NAB 2017

 

NAB, Las Vegas, 12th April 2017, Booth SU7813 and N328FP – the ATSC 3.0 Pavilion: ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, is launching its latest technology – Campaign Manager for AdsEdge – to allow DTT and cable network operators and broadcasters to increase revenues via highly cost-effective local content insertion.

Campaign Manager for AdsEdge joins the AdsEdge range, which provides targeted local content insertion in DTT and cable networks – typically ads, news, and weather. AdsEdge is a combination of server and splicer and is placed at the edge of networks (transmission sites, cable POPs) to provide dedicated, targeted content insertion based on geographical location.

Campaign Manager is the missing element that simplifies and ensures smooth operation of the overall content delivery process. It’s a central server application that works by interfacing with the automation system (receiving playlists), the broadcast delivery chain, internal or external content servers and with AdsEdge to ensure that the right content is received correctly and is supplied to the splicer in the correct timeframe.

Campaign Manager also ensures that this content is delivered to air and then provides comprehensive reports and statistics to all those involved – broadcaster, network operator and content provider – once the content has been aired.

ENENSYS SHOWS RECENTLY DEPLOYED ATSC 3.0 TECHNOLOGY AT NAB 2017

NAB, Las Vegas, 10th April 2017, Booth SU7813 and N328FP – the ATSC 3.0 Pavilion: ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, is showing its already-deployed ATSC 3.0 solutions for the first time at NAB. ENENSYS is exhibiting on booth SU7813 and also in the ATSC 3.0 Pavilion.

Richard Lhermitte, VP of Sales and Marketing with ENENSYS, said, “ATSC 3.0 is a sea change for digital terrestrial broadcasting in those markets where the IP-based standard will underpin deployment. Our ATSC 3.0 product range has already been deployed successfully by Korean terrestrial broadcasters, including SBS. It has rolled out our ATScheduler and IPGuard changeover switches as key components of its new system.”

The product range utilizes the company’s global DTT knowledge to create ATSC 3.0 technologies that allow broadcasters to maximize MultiPLP management while operating Single Frequency Networks. ENENSYS has used its experience to create a premium grade broadcast solution, including 1+1 seamless redundancy thanks to its IPGuard supporting ATSC 3.0’s STL protocol.

On show is the company’s ATSCheduler (a broadcast gateway), which is central to ATSC 3.0 network operation. Running at the station or central headend, the ATSCheduler encapsulates the IP streams stemming from various HEVC encoders that deliver the compressed audiovisual content over ROUTE or MMTP protocols, and from the non-real-time server generating the signalling information and the interactive applications. It outputs the resulting ATSC-compliant multiplex using the STL (Studio to Transmitter Link) protocol through IP.

Also on show is ENENSYS’ ATSC 3.0-compatible IPGuard that provides seamless redundancy. It uses the STL protocol that’s central to the standard. IPGuard provides instant switchover from main to back-up without interrupting transmission. Redundancy is required at two levels to do this: STL to deliver the synchronised content to the headend; and at the scheduler level to ensure seamless switchover in a single frequency network environment.

Additionaly, IPGuard can also now operate as a seamless RTP switch to permit switching between undefined, identical RTP streams.

Lhermitte adds, “We will be part of multiple ATSC 3.0 demonstrations at the show including a live Las Vegas broadcast from local station KLSV-LD and targeted ad insertion in the NextGen TV Hub in the Grand Lobby. Our technology will also support demonstrations on the Triveni booth, GatesAir and Unisoft as well as on both of our booths (see above for detail).”

ENENSYS reveals real-world ATSC 3.0 DTT technologies at NAB 2017

ATSCheduler – NAB 2017 is the first chance to see ENENSYS’ ATSC 3.0 product range on show following on from its successful recent deployment by Korean Terrestrial Broadcasters, including SBS. The company is highlighting two main products: its ATSC 3.0 Scheduler/Broadcast Gateway called ATSCheduler and ATSC 3.0-compliant IPGuard.

As a broadcast gateway, ATSCheduler is central to ATSC 3.0 network operation. Running at the station or central headend, the ATSCheduler encapsulates the IP streams stemming from various HEVC encoders that deliver the compressed audiovisual content over ROUTE or MMTP protocols, and from the non-real-time server generating the signaling information and the interactive applications. It outputs the resulting ATSC-compliant multiplex using the STL (Studio to Transmitter Link) protocol through IP. The ATScheduler runs in the HDc chassis that can embed up to 6x ATScheduler modules in 1U: the same chassis can output up to 6 STL streams over IP.

ATSC 3.0-compatible IPGuard provides seamless redundancy. It uses the STL protocol that’s central to the standard. IPGuard provides instant switchover from main to backup without interrupting transmission. Redundancy is required at two levels to do this: STL to deliver the synchronised content to the headend; and at the scheduler level to ensure seamless switchover in a single frequency network environment.

Campaign Manager for AdsEdge launched at NAB 2017

AdsEdge solution, which provides targeted local content insertion in DTT and cable networks – typically ads, news, weather – has been upgraded and now includes Campaign Manager. AdsEdge is a combination of server and splicer and is placed at the edge of networks (Tx sites, cable POP…) to be able to provide dedicated targeted content insertion based on geographical location. Campaign Manager is a central server application that interfaces with the automation system (receiving playlists), with the content and advertising providers (ad agencies), and with AdsEgde to ensure that the right content is received correctly and is supplied to the splicer in the correct timeframe. It makes the necessary links between all the elements in the delivery chain. It also provides complete reporting capabilities to clearly and precisely show what has been broadcast and when.

OneBeam ISDB-Tb – ENENSYS will also demonstrate its comprehensive ISDB-Tb solution designed for Brazil and other Latin American countries. At transmission sites, the company’s TbEdge is able to receive and decrypt the DVB-S signal in order to generate a BTS for MFN or SFN broadcasting. It can also update SI information such as the translation of DVB NIT into ISDB-T NIT, updating virtual channel names and service names, for instance. Additionally, it can reuse the DTH signal to build the ISDB-T multiplex to save satellite bandwidth capacity. From the DTH feed, the system selects the services at each transmission site to build the new ISDB-T/Tb signal. The same solution can be used across multiple regions to offer service regionalisation. ENENSYS’ AdsEdge technology will also allow insertion of pre-recorded regional or local content such as advertisement or local news at transmission sites.

ENENSYS selected by SEOUL BROADCASTING SYSTEM for ATSC 3.0 rollout with 4K

ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, working with their Korea partner SMC NS, has been selected by Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) in Korea to supply its new ATSCheduler and IPGuard products for the launch of ATSC 3.0 DTT services in February this year.

Korea is leading the rollout of the new IP-based digital terrestrial standard, which is in the final stages of development. SBS will launch in the Seoul area, with DTT coverage expanding across the rest of the country in advance of the 2018 Winter Olympics to be held in Pyeongchang.

SBS will operate one ATSC 3.0 multiplex in a 6MHz RF channel with capacity for either one 4K UHD service or one 4K UHD plus one HD service, depending on the nature of the content and the compression applied. It has selected ENENSYS ATSchedulers and IPGuard changeover switches as key components of the new system.

The ATScheduler is the ‘Broadcast Gateway’ of the ATSC 3.0 network, providing IP stream adaption, PLP (Physical Layer Pipe) allocation, SFN timing, in-band control and signalling to all the ATSC modulators.

Located at the broadcast playout centre, the ATSCheduler encapsulates multiple IP Streams coming from HEVC encoders, signalling generators and captioning servers using ROUTE or MMTP protocols. Ensuring the ALP encapsulation, the BBFrame allocation, the different LLS (Low Layer Signaling) generation, it outputs the resulting ATSC-compliant STL (Studio to Transmitter Link) stream protocol over IP.

Crucially, ENENSYS’ ATSCheduler supports single frequency network deployment (SFN), providing the spectrum efficiency required for terrestrial transition.

System Reliability for Broadcast-over-IP applications

From headend to backend, passing through contribution and distribution networks, IP is now almost everywhere in broadcast infrastructure, with its use only increasing. On the production and playout side of the business that’s also now set to dramatically increase. This is due to the flexibility of IP-based systems, their relatively low cost and their high performance: they are increasingly prevalent across digital video technologies and installations. However, transmitting data over IP networks is not an easy task. Transmission channel capacity isn’t infinite but a huge amount of data can be required to be sent simultaneously. Even if broadcast networks are properly structured and with enough capacity, IP packets still undergo a lot of challenges to reach their destination. Additionally, the different appliances used in a system can also be the cause of erroneous data in a transmission that operators need to detect and manage adequately.What are the sources of errors in an infrastructure?

ENENSYS’ LAUNCH OF DTTCaster PROVIDES COST-EFFECTIVE REGIONAL DTT RETRANSMISSION

ENENSYS, is announcing the launch of DTTCaster at IBC 2016. This provides highly cost-effective off-air reception and retransmission of DTT signals at transmitter sites where other connectivity isn’t possible or is cost-prohibitive.

DTTCaster, a brand new product, is an important addition to ENENSYS’ DTT network regionalisation and optimisation portfolio. It allows highly cost-effective retransmission of DTT networks at regional/local transmitter sites where IP (microwave, fibre and so on) or satellite connectivity isn’t possible or is too expensive. In terms of the former, this is usually down to either geography or cost or a combination of the two. C-band satellite reception at local transmitter sites isn’t always possible either as the dishes are very large and there’s surrounding infrastructure required too. Of course with satellite there are also capacity costs to consider.

DTTCaster allows reception of network content using a simple antenna then re-generates that content on another frequency. This provides low-cost, high-quality retransmission of a network. With DVB-T2, ENENSYS has developed an innovative and fully standards-compliant solution that allows the rebroadcasting of Single Frequency Network content in both single PLP and multiple PLP mode. This allows an efficient parent/child transmitter architecture. DTTCaster units are housed in ENENSYS’s HDc chassis with a maximum of six DTTCaster units in 1U enabling the reception of 24 RF signals.

ENENSYS SECURES MAJOR WIN IN PATENT DISPUTE

The patent dispute involved the company’s DTT network regionalisation solution, which allows ENENSYS to provide broadcasters with a cost-effective and flexible way to differentiate their services with dedicated, regionalised content.

ENENSYS DEMONSTRATES EXPANDED DTT ISDB-T CAPABILITIES AT SET EXPO

SET EXPO, São Paulo, Stand 154 – 29 August 2016:

At SET EXPO 2016, ENENSYS Technologies, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, will demonstrate increased capabilities of its ISDB-T portfolio enabling BTS compression/decompression, BTS over IP adaptation, ISDB-T/Tb rebroadcasting as well as targeted regional ad insertion. ENENSYS has also leveraged its ASI and IP switches, ASIIPGuard and IPGuard V2, to support automatic near-seamless and seamless switching between redundant ISDB-T signals.

OneBeam is a central part of ENENSYS’ network efficiency solutions, sitting between encoding/multiplexing and transmission. The system is composed of the TbGateway product at the headend and the TbEdge product – which generates the BTS signal at the transmission sites. OneBeam tackles key issues related to the specific nature of the broadcast transport stream (BTS) in ISDB-T/Tb, which is required for broadcasting ISDB-T/Tb signals. Not only is the BTS composed of 204 bytes long MPEG-2 transport stream packets – which necessitates adaption in order to convey it over the delivery network – but it also requires a bandwidth of 32 Mbit/s stream, regardless of how many channels or services are included, making it costly for content delivery over satellite to DTT headends.

OneBeam ISDB-T/Tb allows a standard (MPEG-2) transport stream to be used within the delivery network, removing the need for proprietary equipment to deliver and receive the BTS stream. This also means that services can easily be monitored across the delivery network because of the standardised MPEG signal.

TbEdge can be used as a standalone system to generate the BTS for a specific region. However, adding the system to the network allows the operator the added benefit of being able to control all the TbEdge from a centralized location. In this case, the TbGateway serves as central point for the network.

ENENSYS has now developed BTS compression/decompression capabilities within the OneBeam system to better support its customers in Brazil. Brazilian operators currently use a solution to compress the BTS before it is sent over satellite, and decompress it at the transmitter sites. The new development will allow them to do this within OneBeam or using the BTS decompression feature within the TbEdge which is interoperable with third-party BTS compressors.

At this year’s SET EXPO, ENENSYS will also present the DTTCaster product that enables an ISDB-T/Tb off-air signal to be rebroadcast over ASI and IP. This is designed to provide highly cost-effective retransmission of DTT networks at regional/local transmitter sites where IP (microwave, fibre, etc.) or satellite connectivity isn’t possible or is cost-prohibitive. DTTCaster allows reception of the network content using a simple antenna then re-generates that content on another frequency. This provides low-cost, high-quality retransmission of a network. Last but not least, ENENSYS will also demonstrate its ad insertion product AdsEdge. AdsEdge addresses the problem of cost-effective regional content insertion in DTT and cable networks. It supports the ‘splicing’ of file-based content, such as advertising spots, local news and regional weather forecasts, at the final stage of signal distribution – the transmitter site in DTT’s case, and local cable headends for redistribution in others. Its single frequency network is fully compatible with DTT, and combines the Ads Server and Splicer in a single unit, reducing cost and complexity. rEWS – ENENSYS will also highlight its rEWS – Regional Early Warning System – solution. This is a technologically elegant and cost-effective system for DVB-T2 SFN networks, avoiding the need for special receiver software by using a standard TV channel to deliver the warning message. Alerts are triggered by signalling in the broadcast transport stream, T2Edge processors at transmitter sites replace all the video and audio services on all channels with the EWS alert service. This means all receivers will display the warning immediately. Alerts can be broadcast from selected transmitters only for regional coverage.

OneBeam – ENENSYS’ OneBeam system provides the ability to use a standard satellite DTH network to also distribute services to DVB-T/T2 or ISDB-T transmitter sites. Before OneBeam, two separate satellite networks have been required to deliver services to DTH (DVB-S/S2) and DTT (DVB-T/T2) transmitters because of incompatible signal formats and signalling. OneBeam enables a single satellite feed to be used to deliver services to both platforms, enabling very significant OPEX savings of satellite capacity costs.

ENENSYS ANNOUNCES ATSC 3.0 DTT TECHNOLOGIES AT NAB 2016

ENENSYS is using its global DTT experience and understanding of ATSC 3.0 to announce its entrance into the market for the new DTT transmission standard. As with its DVB successes, ENENSYS’ initial products – a ROUTE server, the ATSC3.0 Scheduler and an ATSC3.0 Modulator – sit between encoding and transmission. Using these products, broadcasters can deliver live streams directly from an encoder outputting DASH segments, while managing the ATSC3.0 physical parameters: MultiPLP allocation, SFN synchronization and so on. The technology, based on ENENSYS’ well-known modular platform HDc, has been developed to comply with the new standard, allowing broadcasters and network operators to take advantage of the benefits provided by it.

As well as its South Upper booth, ENENSYS is also exhibiting in the ATSC 3.0 Broadcast/Workflow Area (in the NAB Futures Park), where executives will be available to discuss in more depth the possibilities that ENENSYS’ technology opens up.

OneBeam ISDB-Tb – ENENSYS will also highlight its OneBeam ISDB-T/Tb DTT network optimization technology, designed for Latin American markets. OneBeam tackles key issues related to the specific nature of the broadcast transport stream (BTS) in ISDB-T/Tb, which is required for broadcasting ISDB-T/Tb signals. Using an unusual 204 bytes MPEG transport stream, this also requires a bandwidth of 32 Mbit/s, regardless of how many channels or services are included, making it costly for content delivery over satellite to DTT headends. The BTS stream is generated in the last mile – i.e. at the TX site – supporting SFN. From the DTH feed, the TbEdge system selects the services at each transmission site to build the new ISDB-T/Tb signal. The same solution can be used across multiple regions to offer service regionalization.

ENENSYS RISES TO IP STREAM REDUNDANCY CHALLENGE WITH MODULAR IPGUARDV2

Rennes, France, 22 March 2016: ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, has risen to the redundancy challenge provided by the huge growth in the use of IP streams with the launch of its new IPGuardV2. As well as its core redundancy capabilities, the system also includes advanced switching criteria specifically designed for the broadcast and related media markets.

Jean-Baptiste MARIE, Product Marketing Engineer with ENENSYS, said, “The whole industry is now moving towards IP throughout the broadcast chain. A prime network example is where once it was satellite from headend to transmitter, now it’s increasingly IP. This is a global phenomenon. Of course, with increased usage comes increased redundancy requirements. Successful redundancy is essential in meeting service level agreements.”

IPGuardV2 provides smart and automatic redundancy for all IP-based appliances and networks and is designed for any customer that needs to secure IP stream transport or generation. For example, used in DTT headend it allows seamless single frequency network and T2-MI switching, preventing any loss of synchronisation between transmitters in a network and thus, avoiding a complete TV blackout.

In order to provide the capacity and flexibility that the market now requires, IPGuardV2 is compatible with the company’s High Density Chassis and can be purchased and installed in a modular way for maximum scalability and flexibility. In 1RU the chassis contains six product modules, each module able to handle 66 streams. This means a total of 396 streams per 1RU. This high density and huge processing capabilities makes the product ideal for high stream count networks like CATV and IPTV.

IPGuardV2 can provide 1+1 IP automatic stream redundancy for any IP-based equipment (encoders, multiplexers, VoD servers, etc.).In the case of network redundancy, IPGuardV2 can manage seamless redundancy of identical TS and T2-MI streams coming from different network paths with different transport delays by performing streams alignment. For instance, it can be used to provide redundancy for streams to a remote site through both a fibre and an Ethernet network. It also allows only specific affected streams to be replaced.

Finally, thanks to its “bypass” feature and the hot plug power supply, IPGuardV2 ensures 100 per cent service availability by preventing systems failures from impacting successful delivery.

CANAL+ OVERSEAS PARTNERS WITH ENENSYS FOR MULTI-COUNTRY AFRICAN DTT NETWORK ROLLOUT

AdsEdge is based on SCTE 35 markers and enables locally targeted content to be inserted at the edge of the content delivery process – at the transmitter site – within a DTT single frequency network environment. It’s compatible with any terrestrial network, including DVB-T, DVB-T2, ISDB-T. AdsEdge enables the step-by-step regional deployment of local ads and content and is supported by ENENSYS’ HDc chassis platform, allowing broadcasters maximum flexibility, scalability and cost-efficiency.

ENENSYS OVERARCHING NETWORK OPTIMISATION SOLUTION

OneBeam – OneBeam solves the problem of being unable to use the same satellite capacity to deliver services for both DTH (DVB-S/S2) and DTT (DVB-T or T2). Before OneBeam, two separate networks have been required to deliver a content bouquet to DTH and DTT (DVB-T/T2 or ISDB-Tb) viewers because receivers for one could not use signals from the other. OneBeam uses ENENSYS technology at both national and regional sites, providing a single feed with no modification of the A/V stream and therefore very significant OPEX savings. OneBeam is a central solution in ENENSYS’ DTH network optimisation capabilities with 2015 seeing the company launch OneBeam ISDB-Tb, providing a host of additional benefits to LatAm markets.

ENENSYS also continues to develop its DVB-T solutions, which are now upgradeable to DVB-T2, with increased density and flexibility. All products are also integrated with the company’s HDc chassis for easier support. ENENSYS Technologies, announced its brand new AdsEdge solution. The system has been specifically designed to enable broadcasters to more effectively monetise their content, offering an innovative approach to local video content management. AdsEdge allows broadcasters to maximise this opportunity. The system offers an elegant means to generate additional revenue from existing output through the insertion of local content, such as adverts, news and weather forecasts, at the final stage of DTT delivery.

AdsEdge relies on SCTE 35 markers and enables locally targeted content to be inserted at the edge of the content delivery process – at the transmitter site – within a DTT Single Frequency Network (SFN) environment. The system’s deterministic approach allows it to handle the usual constraints of having the same content on the same frequency at the same time, vital with the predominance of SFN networks.

ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, today announced that Televisa has deployed its switcher technology as part of a wider DTT (ATSC) network rollout. ENENSYS has delivered a large volume of its ASIGuard II switchers for installation at transmitter sites across the country, as well as its new ASIIPSwitch and HDc chassis platform, for secure microwave links in seamless switching mode.

Sergio León, DTT Compression Systems Manager at Televisa said, “The main purpose for the inclusion of ENENSYS’ technology in our ATSC network infrastructure is to provide a highly reliable ASI stream that is delivered onward to DTT transmission systems. ENENSYS ASIGuard II Smart Switch has been successfully integrated with Ericsson´s NMS for monitoring purposes. Thanks to its analysis capabilities, it’s able to provide real-time status updates of ASI stream structures. ASIGuard II provides automatic switching between two ASI sources – in this case the main and backup encoders – allowing it to be used as a 1+1 redundancy solution. If errors are detected in the “on-air” stream, the system will automatically switch to the second stream if this is offers a better signal.

The ASIIPGuard provides a secure output in both IP and ASI formats with the same module. ENENSYS’ HDc chassis makes the whole system extremely scalable and futureproof, allowing additional switcher modules to be added as required. Switches can also easily be bypassed for maintenance.

ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, today announced that its flagship OneBeam solution is now compatible with the ISDB-T/Tb standard used across Latin America.

In an ISDB-Tb environment, OneBeam-Tb eliminates the problem of having to send a proprietary stream over the satellite delivery network to transmitters. Instead, the same MPEG-2 transport stream can be delivered over satellite as over the DTT network, allowing the centralised management of regional content. This means that services can easily be monitored across the delivery network because of the standardised signal. It also means that operators have one delivery network with multiple services.

OneBeam-Tb enables operators to re-use existing network equipment and optimises bandwidth usage for greater cost-efficiency. It enables one or more optimised and clear ISDB-Tb/SBTVD multiplexes over a single satellite feed. ENENSYS’ unique solution allows the building on each transmission site of a new ISDB-T/Tb multiplex, selecting the relevant feed from the main DTH signal. At each transmission site they can easily select the services they require, thereby using one delivery network across multiple regions, yet still offering regionalisation.

Already deployed in multiple DVB-T/T2 markets worldwide, OneBeam has been designed from the ground up to solve the problem of being unable to use the same satellite capacity to deliver services for both DTH and DTT networks. Before OneBeam, two separate networks have been required to deliver a content bouquet to DTH and DTT (ISDB-Tb) viewers because receivers for one could not use signals from the other. A solution was an economic imperative for DTT markets, especially in single frequency network (SFN) environments.

ENENSYS, a leading designer and manufacturer of broadcast transmission technologies for Digital TV and Telecom industries, is demonstrating Mobistream, ENENSYS field-proven eMBMS-Gateway and BM-SC product, currently deployed in the first US commercial launch.

LTE operators and solution integrators require three new components to deploy LTE Broadcast on a 4G network, namely the Multi-Cell Coordination Entity (MCE), eMBMS Gateway and Broadcast Multicast Service Center (BM-SC). While the MCE is usually integrated into the eNodeB, the eMBMS Gateway and BM-SC are new functional elements that must be added to the EPC.

One of the new evolutions in LTE Broadcast is the use of a SFN network to transmit the broadcast content. The UserPlane of these functional elements require special care to be compliant with the MBSFN broadcast mode: when LTE Broadcast is activated over an MBSFN Area (Multicast-Broadcast Single Frequency Network), all eNodeBs of this area must be tightly synchronized to respect the stringent SFN requirements. Such robust synchronization is essential to ensure that the content transmitted over several eNodeBs arrives on the UE within the SFN guard interval span to limit Inter-Symbol-Interference.

However, while SFN technology is well deployed in Broadcast TV industry, it is a new feature in LTE requiring Telecom operators to tightly control time & frequency for a set of eNodeBs that broadcast the same content over the air.

ENENSYS, with its long expertise in SFN for Broadcast TV, is ideally positioned to propose to Telecom operators and system integrators a robust, field-proven implementation of the SYNC insertion module to ensure all eNodeBs optimally transmit the bearer content over its MBSFN Service Area.
ENENSYS Mobistream eMBMS Gateway and BM-SC is an all-in-one solution that integrates the necessary UserPlane functionality to achieve LTE Broadcast. It receives HTTP, RTP, and FLUTE encapsulated multimedia data, creates eMBMS bearers and adds SYNC PDUs to each bearer, before sending the content over the M1 interface to the eNodeBs. It supports both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. Besides, as a high profile network component, Mobistream also adds port and device redundancy, reducing the risk and impact of a hardware failure while “on-air”.

Each Mobistream device manages up to 200 bearers in parallel, and operators may seamlessly add devices to increase the overall capacity to reach their required peak.

ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, has today announced the official release of its new ASI switcher technology, ASIIPGuard. The solution is a significant upgrade of its widely deployed ASI switches, and is a highly cost-effective technology, allowing network operators and broadcasters to provide premium signal quality for viewers.

ASIIPGuard provides automatic switching capabilities between two ASI sources, ensuring the best quality input is selected at any given moment by analysing transport feeds. It can also be used as a 1+1 redundancy solution.

Laurent Roul, Broadcast Networks Product Line Manager, said, “The launch of ASIIPGuard is the latest development from us designed to provide network efficiency and a premium quality viewer experience. It allows broadcasters to avoid transmitter de-synchronisation and transmission blackouts in DTT SFN (single frequency network) environments, which is vital. When operating at transmission sites, ASIIPGuard analyses and realigns transport feed data to seamlessly switch over inputs, selecting the best DVB-S/S2 source from either ASI, IP or satellite inputs, which is crucial. It’s primarily designed for cases where there is a main and backup feed – for example, where the Multiple Program Transport Stream (MPTS) is delivered over IP with a satellite stream as backup. If errors are detected within the IP stream (at IP or MPTS level), the system will automatically switch to the satellite input to select a better quality source for onward transmission – and vice versa.

ASIIPGuard is fully compatible with the new ENENSYS HDc chassis, providing high-density switching. The HDc chassis allows modules and power sources to be hot swappable for maximum flexibility and easy maintenance. The HDc platform is highly scalable and is fully future-proof. It can run up to six ASIIPGuard modules to enable six ASI switch functions in 1U..

The ASIIPGuard has been designed as a 2:1 automatic ASI switch to provide redundancy for any equipment with ASI connections. With up to three ASI, two IP and one satellite input, it offers the option to switch between three feeds to become a 3:1 automatic ASI switch.

OneBeam enables the DTH satellite service to be used to feed the DVB-T2 transmitters, delivering significant savings in satellite transponder capacity and operational costs.

Regional Emergency Warning System (rEWS) is a receiver-agnostic technology providing video-based emergency warnings of dangerous weather events and natural disasters on a regional basis for DVB-T2 networks.

Providing TV-based emergency warnings on a regional basis is a primary requirement across many countries and regions around the world. But using receiver-based methods is complex, requiring special receiver software in order to display the emergency alert and even then they only support audio, text and graphics. Alternatively, using a standard middleware like HbbTV or MHEG-5 means the alert display is implemented as an application but this requires additional receiver cost and comprehensive receiver conformance testing. Middleware solutions are also limited to audio, text and graphics.

ENENSYS has addressed this need with rEWS, a technologically elegant and cost-effective solution for digital terrestrial (DVB-T and DVB-T2) networks, including those with multiple regions where only one region needs the warning. By using broadcast TV channels to convey the warning message across all TV channels in a region (or nationally) at the same time, rEWS avoids the need for special receiver software.

ENENSYS’ rEWS is a video-based solution that overcomes these limitations. The emergency alert is delivered as a TV service, using standard broadcast video and audio. When an alert is triggered, all normal programming is interrupted and replaced with the emergency alert service, which is usually provided by the government disaster coordination centre. As the alert message is standard video and audio all basic set-top boxes and iDTVs can receive the warnings without modification and, in addition, the alert message can use video as well as audio, text and graphics

This means any receiver will play the warning immediately. Alerts can be broadcast from selected transmitters only for regional coverage. rEWS is available as part of all ENENSYS regionalisation solutions, including content regionalisation solutions (T2Edge with PLP substitution feature) and within ENENSYS’ OneBeam solution.

Both rEWS and OneBeam benefit from ENENSYS’ new modular chassis, which can house up to six modules in 1RU, generating valuable space and cost savings. As well as handling multiple ENENSYS products (ASIIPGuard, T2Edge, T2EdgeDTH, NetMod, etc.) it allows modules to be hot swappable and the option to do the same with power sources. This makes for added flexibility and easy maintenance. The HDc platform is highly scalable and is fully future-proof, allowing roll-out with T2 local adaptation or T2 modulation, with the option to add a DTH combination as a redundancy solution.

ENENSYS PROVIDES ONEBEAM SYSTEM TO THAI TV5 FOR NATIONAL DVB-T2 NETWORK LAUNCH IN THAILAND

In advance of this month’s Broadcast Asia, ENENSYS, designers and manufacturers of digital TV transmission technologies, has today announced that it has supplied its OneBeam solution to Thai TV5 for its DVB-T2 digital terrestrial TV network. The network optimisation system comprises: T2 Gateways, IPGuard Seamless Switches and T2Edge local adapters for Thai TV5 in Bangkok for its DVB-T2 digital terrestrial TV network.

The new DVB-T2 network has launched with transmitters in the cities of Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Mai and Songkhla with TV5 providing two multiplexes delivering a total of 14 TV channels. Additional transmitters will be commissioned over the next 18 months, providing terrestrial TV reception to 95 per cent of Thai households.

ENENSYS T2 Gateways and seamless switches are installed at the Bangkok head-end, with distribution to transmitters over satellite and IP links. The ‘must carry’ requirement in Thailand means that the terrestrial TV channels must also be broadcast on DTH free-to-view satellite within the Kingdom. This ENENSYS OneBeam solution enables the DTH satellite service to be used to feed the DVB-T2 transmitters, delivering significant savings in satellite transponder capacity and operational costs.

ENENSYS T2Edge units at each transmitter site build the T2 multiplexes for transmission, enabling Single Frequency Network operation of transmitters. The T2Edge also implements the Emergency Warning System, replacing all normal TV programmes with an emergency TV service under the control of the disaster coordination centre in Bangkok.

The solution has been supplied through Loxley Public Company Limited, acting as systems integrator for the TV5 network and studio equipment contracts with a total value of more than THB 1 billion.

ENENSYS Provides T2 Gateways and ASIGuard Seamless Switches for MediaCorp DVB-T2 network launch in Singapore

ENENSYS has announced that it has supplied its T2 Gateway and ASIGuard Seamless Switches to MediaCorp in Singapore for use in their DVB-T2 digital terrestrial TV network. The new DTT network, launched at the end of 2013 provides outdoor reception of MediaCorp’s seven channels throughout Singapore. Additional transmitters in one Single Frequency Network (SFN) are being progressively rolled out over the next 3 years, providing indoor TV reception throughout the island city.

The ENENSYS T2 Gateways enable MediaCorp to use the latest version 1.3.1 of DVB-T2. The ASIGuard seamless switches are used at both the head-end and transmitter sites to switch between main and backup systems, ensuring a very high level of overall network availability.
