DVB-NGH introduction

 

The DVB Next Generation broadcasting system to Handheld (NGH) is draft ETSI EN 303 105 standard.

This standard define the next generation transmission system for digital terrestrial and hybrid (combination of terrestrial with satellite transmissions) broadcasting to handheld terminals.

 

The standard define four profiles :

  • Base profile :  Terrestrial transmission with single antenna and tuner on the receiver.
  • MIMO profile : Terrestrial transmission with multiple antennas on the transmitters and receiver sides. The receiver need two tuners to support this MIMO mode. 
  • Hybrid profile : Support combinaison of terrestrial and satellite transmissions and required a single tuner on the receiver.
  • Hybrid MIMO profile : is a combinaison of MIMO and Hybrid profiles.

 

The NGH standard is based on DVB-T2 standard and reuse or extend lot of concept introduce in the DVB-T2 specification.

The NGH standard extend T2 standard with use of Non-Uniform constellation, 4D rotated constellation and Hierarchical modulation for local service insertion.
