Single Frequency Network Adaptation

With frequency shortage currently running, and given the price of broadcasting licenses in general, operating a Mobile TV or Digital Terrestrial TV in Single Frequency Network mode becomes evident when looking at business plan.

Setting up one Single Frequency Network requires that all transmitters broadcast the same content over the same frequency at the same time. Besides, MIP (DVB ) / SIP ( DTMB ) insertion processing, failover ( SFN adapters failures ) has to be handled carefully to ensure continuous service delivery.

Specialized in Mobile TV broadcast and Digital Terrestrial TV broadcast domain, ENENSYS Technologies offers a line of SFN adapters for operation in DVB-H, DVB-T and DTMB standards.

ENENSYS has developped a new patent technology named SFNguard that enables NN6-MIP to provide for a unique seamless 1+1 redundancy mechanism that prevents for any TV blackout during switch-over.

Key Features

MIP (DVB)/ SIP (DTMB) Insertion

Based on GPS clock reference, SFN Adapter inserts into MPEG-2 Transport Stream all the information needed by the transmitters to broadcast synchronously:
  • Timing information : guaranteed synchronous transmission
  • Modulation parameters : same OFDM symbols
  • Optional information: individual transmitter addressing and RF coverage refinement (DVB only)

Multi-standards

ENENSYS SFN Adapters product line encompasses DVB-T, DVB-H and DTMB (Chinese DTTV) standards.

The same hardware equipment can be used to handle DVB or DTMB standard.

SFNguard, 1+1 seamless switch-over

In case of failure, switching from one SFN Adapter to the other will cause the modulator to loose SFN Synchronization.

ENENSYS patented a 1 + 1 synchronization mechanism to ensure continuous delivery in SFN namely SFNguard, ENENSYS patent.

SFNguard
performs a seamless switch-over between two MIP inserters and avoid any TV blackout in case of one MIP failure, input data synchronization loss or 10Mhz reference clock loss.

Network coverage optimization

Depending on the transmission environment, RF coverage can be optimized using MIP packet optional data. ENENSYS DVB SFN Adapter can support up to 128 transmitters through the optional parameters to configure :
  • Delay transmission
  • Adjust frequency
